Navigators Mentoring Program
(formerly Omega Lamplighters)

The Navigators Mentoring Program is a free, 10-month mentoring experience designed to support students in grades 6 through 11 as they navigate the academic, social, and personal challenges of adolescence.

Rooted in consistency, accountability, and relationship-building, Navigators provides students with guidance, structure, and encouragement while creating space for learning, growth, and fun.
Program Overview
-
Grades: 6 -11
-
Cost: Free
-
Program Length: March - December (10 months)
-
Format: In-person group sessions, classroom discussions, community engagement

The Navigators Mentoring Program blends interactive classroom sessions with experiential learning opportunities that address real-life topics teens face daily. Our approach is supportive, intentional, and focused on long-term growth—not quick fixes.

Program Schedule & Time Commitment
Most Navigators Mentoring Program sessions take place one Saturday per month and typically last approximately four hours. This consistent rhythm helps families plan while allowing students to fully engage in each experience.

There will be occasional exceptions, including:
-
One planned out-of-area trip (transportation provided)
-
One planned Sunday event
-
Select months where multiple events may be scheduled
All dates, locations, and details will be communicated well in advance.

Lunch is provided at every event, allowing parents to confidently drop off their student and pick them up on time without needing to make additional arrangements.
Program Focus Areas
Throughout the year, mentees will participate in sessions centered on:

-
Leadership development
-
Communication and social skills
-
Decision-making and accountability
-
Goal setting and personal responsibility
-
Addressing chronic absenteeism and the importance of consistent school attendance
-
Building healthy peer and mentor relationships
-
Community involvement and service
Our goal is to help students build habits and skills that support success both in and outside of school.

Attendance & Participation Expectations
To remain in good standing within the program, mentees are expected to:

-
Attend at least 70% of all scheduled sessions and events
-
Participate in the annual Krispy Kreme Fundraiser
-
Show up with a positive attitude, respect for others, and a willingness to learn

These expectations help ensure students are fully engaged and able to benefit from the program.
Fundraising Component
All mentees will participate in a Krispy Kreme Fundraiser during the program year. This experience is designed to build confidence, responsibility, and teamwork while supporting the sustainability of the program. Recognition and incentives may be tied to participation and effort.
Parental Expectations & Partnership
We view the Navigators Mentoring Program as a partnership between mentors, students, and families. To help ensure a positive experience for everyone involved, we ask families to support the following expectations:

Communication
We communicate primarily through email, text, GroupMe, and calendar invitations. Parents and students will receive advance notice with details for all sessions, events, and any schedule updates.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up
-
For local events, parents and guardians are expected to drop off and pick up students directly at the event location, on time.
-
For out-of-area events, families will drop off and pick up students at a designated meeting location, where we will travel together.
-
Lunch is provided at every event, and parents are not required to stay on-site unless otherwise noted.
Parents will also be invited to select events throughout the year and are encouraged to attend when possible.

Behavior & Engagement
We expect students to arrive ready to participate with a positive attitude, respect for others, and an openness to learning. Because our mentors are volunteers, we ask that students show respect for each adult’s time and effort.
If a student does not want to participate, we kindly ask families not to force participation. We understand that mentoring may not be the right fit for every student at every stage, and that’s okay. Our goal is to serve students who are ready and willing to engage.

Our Commitment to Families
In return, we commit to providing:
-
A safe, supportive, and engaging environment
-
Clear communication and advance planning
-
Mentors who care deeply about student growth and success
